    Job Summary:

    The Mainframe DBA will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, reliability, and optimal performance of the company’s mainframe databases. This position requires expertise in backup and recovery processes, logical and physical database design, query tuning, and data management.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Backup and Recovery:
      • Implement and maintain robust backup and recovery processes using industry-standard tools.
      • Ensure data protection and disaster recovery readiness
        1. Database Design and Management
          • Collaborate with application teams to design logical and physical database structures.
          • Perform data management tasks, including loading, unloading, updating, restoring, and data removal to maintain database accuracy.
            1. Database Maintenance:
              • Execute ad-hoc reorganisations (Reorgs) and run statistical analyses (Runstats) as requested by application teams.
              • Monitor and manage scheduled maintenance activities.
              • Purge obsolete data and reclaim space to optimise database storage.
    2. Performance Tuning and Troubleshooting:
      • Troubleshoot database performance issues, identifying bottlenecks, and applying query tuning concepts.
      • Address high-priority database issues promptly.
        1. Monitoring and Alerts:
          • Monitor database backups and maintenance jobs.
          • Collaborate with Operations teams to troubleshoot job failures.
          • Regularly check database logs for any anomalies or issues.
            1. Environment Refresh
  • Refresh development and test databases with production backup images as requested.
    • Support:
      • Provide day-to-day support to development teams, assisting with bind issues, resource availability, and other queries.

        Major Assets:
    • z/OS Operating System: Proficiency in z/OS operating system components, including TSO, SDSF, JES2, DFSMS, and USS.
      Experience with operating system performance tuning and monitoring.
    • Backup and Recovery Scenarios: Familiarity with z/OS backup and recovery scenarios, particularly utilizing the DFHSM subsystem.

      Essential Skills:
    • Languages: French and/or English
    • Mainframe DBA Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a mainframe DBA.
      • TSO/ISPF Knowledge: Proficiency in TSO/ISPF commands and navigation.
        • JCL Coding: Adept at writing and understanding Job Control Language (JCL).
          • COBOL-DB2 Programming: Good understanding of COBOL-DB2 interactions and debugging skills.
            • IBM Utilities: Familiarity with basic IBM utilities such as LOAD, UNLOAD, REORG, and RUNSTATS.
              • DB2 Tools: Knowledge of DB2 tools, including CA Platinum tools and Data Propagator.
