Testing

For Hays, testing is more than just a sales feature. We find that our tests in combination with the feedback interview provide a clear picture: Who is the candidate? What does he/she want? What are his/her capabilities? What is his/her score as compared to the candidates? Does he/she fit in with the corporate culture? Our testing aims at proving maximum assurance concerning the success of our candidate in a specific job.

Hays applies psychological tests with proven reliability and validity based on sound scientific principles.

We will measure the following factors and skills:

  • Personality: This test outlines the candidate’s personality based on five dimensions, the so-called “Big Five”: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability and Openness to Experience.
  • Performance/motivation: This test measures the performance motivation. Performance motivation refers to the focus with which a candidate confronts a challenging task. How task-oriented is his/her approach? In addition, the scores on positive and negative anxiety provide an insight in how the candidate handles challenges and stress.
  • Intelligence: This test provides a picture of the candidate’s potential in verbal and numerical skills. The test measures the comprehension of various meanings, assessment ability and understanding of verbal expressions. With respect to numerical skills, we measure theoretical and practical arithmetic abilities. A memory test is included.
  • Sales ability: This questionnaire on skills measures insight into sales situations and basic sales principles.
  • Management skills: This questionnaire measures the ability to effectively perform executive tasks and responsibilities.

We dispose of a range of other skill validation tests to fit specific profiles: language tests, organisation tests, accounting tests, etc..

The psychometric tests are taken on a computer and will afterwards immediately be discussed with the candidate. This gives us the advantage that the test results can be placed in the right context and enhanced with the candidate’s comments. Candidates tend to experience our selection procedure as an interesting experience with opportunities for personal growth.
